Marr Nyang, the founding father of Gambia Participates, has been named an Anti-Corruption Champion by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

The award, which recognises people making important strides within the combat towards corruption, highlights Marr’s relentless dedication to transparency and accountability in The Gambia.

Speaking on the award ceremony in Washington, D.C., Marr expressed gratitude and shared his imaginative and prescient for empowering younger folks globally:

“It’s an absolute privilege to receive the Anti-Corruption Champions Award from Secretary Blinken earlier today at the State Department. Being the youngest ever recipient of this award makes the challenge of continuing the fight against corruption even greater. Yet, it also inspires young people around the world to believe that age is no barrier to achieving significant impact.”

Marr acknowledged the collaborative efforts which have fuelled his work. 

“I want to thank my team at Gambia Participates, the government, parliament, judiciary, civil society organisations, and international partners who have supported and collaborated with me in advancing anti-corruption initiatives. This award is a testament to the power of teamwork and shared commitment.”
